Chesapeake Weather Services is wholly owned by Chesapeake Energy Marketing Incorporated and Chesapeake Energy Corp. The meteorology division was established during the fall of 2003 when Chesapeake management hired the weather group from Citigroup/Smith Barney. At that time, Jon Davis and Mark Russo became an integral part of the risk management team for the energy company. It was then decided that the weather group would be allowed to consult to a handful of agribusiness, energy companies and other entities and aid in their risk management. Chesapeake Weather added Josh Darr as the third member of the team in the summer of 2007. Located in downtown Chicago along the Chicago River, the weather department is a state-of-the-art facility with the latest in technology.

Our parent, Chesapeake Energy Corporation is the largest independent producer and third-largest overall producer of natural gas in the United States. With 153 operated rigs and 122 non-operated rigs operated in the continental U.S., Chesapeake is the largest driller of natural gas in the country. Additionally, the risk management program of Chesapeake Energy has realized hedging gains in 2006 and 2007 of $1.9 billion resulting in the most successful hedging program in the industry.
